Dwelling on her priorities soon after assuming charge as the SSP Dehradun, Sweety Aggarwal said on Friday that she would do everything to revamp the traffic system in the city. Besides, she said she would rein in crimes with a heavy hand.

“We would ensure that FIRs are lodged in the police station concerned once a complainant approaches it,” she said.

Aggarwal said that the commuters facing difficulties while  crossing the roads near the wedding points or Barat ghars, she would try to ease things. “They also face difficulties during the barat procession.  Traffic police officers have been directed to take steps on the matter.  Moreover, it has been observed that some persons park their old damaged vehicles along the road sides at many places, inconveniencing  the commuters. The police officers have been directed to remove such vehicles and dump them at  the garbage if  the vehicle owners do not shift them within given time frame,” she said.

SP traffic DS Gunjyal has been directed to identify such areas known for traffic snarls. She said that the duty of local police station personnel along with traffic police will be assigned to improve traffic during morning hours, at noon (school time) and evening hours.

Aggarwal further said that her priority would be to make the police force professional. Steps will be taken to make police more responsive, pro-active and people- friendly, she said, adding that people should reach the police station without the least hesitation when they feel that approaching police is the only option left to them to have their grievances redressed.

She said that she had made it clear to the police personnel that the department expects the police officers to be loyal towards laws and be adequately responsible. “Besides, they must try by all means to build an enduring and warm police- public partnership to revive public confidence in us,” she added.
