The Western command of the Indian Army on Saturday launched Gyan Chakra, a Think-Tank conceptualised for taking advantage of the repository of knowledge possessed by a large number of senior Army Defence officers residing in the Tricity.
The Gyan Chakra was inaugurated by the GOC-in-C Western Command, lt Gen KJ Singh in the midst of Army Commanders Conclave being attended by former Army Commanders of Western Command. The GOC-in-C presented the future vision and developments for the command with particular reference to the veterans issues in the presence of Ex-Army Commanders and a large gathering of serving and retired officers.
Speaking to the media later, General KJ Singh said that since a large population of veterans including senior officers are residing in the tri-city there was a need to generate new ideas on national security and defence related issues for the benefit of the serving community in particular and the society at large. He said the vast experience of these veteran officers can be of great help in this regard.
The Think Tank has been set up in close proximity to Khetarpal Officers Institute. With this step, a long standing aspiration of the veteran community has come true, he said.
Gyan Chakra will offer facilities for research, conference hall, a well stocked library and internet with dedicated staff. A sizeable number of veterans and serving officers have already taken up membership. lectures, seminars, conferences, workshops, research work, literary festivals and publishing of journal will be undertaken under the aegis of the institute.
A daylong seminar on ‘Social Media’ and ‘Military literary Festival’ is proposed to be held on June 25 and June 26 respectively. The institute will exchange programmes with other similar institutes like United Service Institute of India, Centre for land Warfare Studies, New Delhi and Defence and Strategic Affairs Departments of various Universities of the region.
