The Indian National lok Dal (INlD), the main Opposition party in Haryana, on Tuesday said it will repeal the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) Act-2014 if the party comes to power in the State.
“We do not support it. We would repeal it when our party comes to power”, said Dushyant Chautala, grandson of INlD chief Om Prakash Chautala and recently elected MP from Hisar.
This is the first time the INlD has criticised the HSGMC Act. During the monsoon session of the State Assembly, in which Congress’ Bhupinder Singh Hooda government passed the Bill on the last day of the Assembly, the INlD merely walked out.
The INlD is a long-term ally of Shiromani Akali Dal which is fiercely opposed to the creation of separate SGPC. Both the INlD and the SAD contest elections as allies in Haryana.
“let the religious places remain under Sri Akal Takht and Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee. Why is Haryana Government unnecessarily interfering in itIJ,” asked Chautala. Chautala expressed apprehension that the state government may misuse donations of Gurdwaras. He appealed to CM and Governor to withdraw it.
