Punjab Government on Sunday launched a scheme to provide free bicycles to the children of construction workers in the State.
Children of all those labourers who are registered with the Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board would be eligible to avail this benefit, said the state labour Welfare Minister Chunni lal Bhagat.
The scheme covers only the registered labourers' children, studying from Class IX to XII, who have also been awarded scholarships from the Board. It is a onetime benefit, and can be availed only once throughout the four years of study.
To avail the benefit of the scheme, a worker must be registered with the Board for a minimum duration of one-year and has been regularly paying the membership fees.
Bhagat appealed to labourers across Punjab to register with the Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board to benefit from the multiple welfare schemes launched by the Punjab Government.
He added that the process of becoming a beneficiary of this scheme has been simplified and does not involve getting approval from Sub Division level or Deputy Commissioner but just one from the Assistant labour Commissioner.
