A wanted criminal, who escaped from custody of a Mohali cop last month, has been arrested from Chandigarh. Sandeep Kumar alias Sunny, a resident of Sector-38 and his accomplice, Honey alias Deep, a native of ludhiana were arrested. Honey is the same person who had helped Sandeep escape from District court.
Sandeep was apparently demanding extortion money of Rs50,000 from a city based jeweler. On the complaint of jeweler, Shiv Kumar Soni, a trap was laid and he was caught as he visited his residence on the night. Police have recovered six mobile phones and one pistol from his possession.
On October 6, Sandeep Kumar slipped out from the custody of a Head Constable of Mohali Police during his production in the District Court. His accomplice, Honey, helped him to escape from police custody as he was already waiting in a car outside the court.
After his escape from the court he indulged in three criminal activities in the city. On October 12, he robbed away a car on gun point from a resident of Mohali near the light point of Kali Bari, Sector 47. Sandeep was also booked in a case of threatening a police official on mobile. He made threatening calls to Poonam Dilawari, Station House Officer of police station sector-19, after the SHO arrested his sister for allegedly manhandling with a women cop on October-24.
