VVPAT machines to be used in Jind bypoll

For the first time in Haryana, voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines would be used in bye-elections to Jind Assembly Constituency.

The voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines will enable the voter to know that the vote cast by him or her through EVM has gone to the account of his desired candidate or not.

A meeting was held on Friday by general observer, Saurabh Bhagat regarding preparations of the bye-elections in which officers and representatives of political parties were present.

On the occasion, Bhagat said that the bye-elections would be completed in fair and transparent manner. For this, all arrangements have been made, he said.

He said that with the use of voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines in the elections, the voter would be able to see on screen for seven seconds the name of candidate to whose account the vote has been credited.

Addressing the representatives of all political parties and independent candidates,  Bhagat directed them to follow the model code of conduct.

If anyone violates the model code of conduct then action would be taken against him as per rules, he added.

He said that web casting cameras would be installed at polling centres in urban areas and videography cameras would be installed at polling centres in rural areas.

As many as 34 candidates have filed their nominations for Jind bypoll.

The voting is scheduled to be held on January 28 in Jind assembly segment which has more than 1.7 lakh voters including over 1.07 lakh urban voters and nearly 62,500 living in villages.

The result will be announced on January 31.

The bypoll will witness an interesting electoral battle with Congress’ sitting MLA Randeep Singh Surjewala, BJP’s Krishan Middha and Jannayak Janta Party Digvijay Chautala in the fray.
