VVIPs fail to keep promises, villagers take to streets

Two “VVIPs” including Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar and Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu who are both connected to Nindana Khas have brought this village nothing but empty assurances.

The residents in Chief Minister’s ancestral village Nindana Khas, which is adopted by Railway Minister under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, have been living a life of miseries.

According to the residents, the village Nindana, with population of more than 12,000 (Census 2011) has no drinking water facility, acute power shortage, poor sanitation and also lacks healthcare and education facilities. Nindana is divided into three panchayats — Nindana Khas, Nindana Tigri and Nindana Mohammadpur.

Adopted by the Railway Minister in the year 2014, Nindana Khas, has a population of more than 3,300 and is planned to be developed as model village by 2016 end. However, it still lacks basic amenities.

The empty assurances on “development works” by two prominent Ministers have now irked the residents of Nindana, who took to streets on Friday morning to protest against Government’s apathy towards their village.

More than 200 villagers who included mostly school girls and women blocked Bhiwani-Gohana road for almost nine hours to make their grievances heard. While women demanded basic facilities of water and power, girls put forth demands of adequate staff and supply of electricity in their school.  “There is no drinking water supply in the village. The three panchayats are arranging water tankers every day. Earlier, there was more than 12 hours power supply to the village Nindana but now, the supply has been reduced to less than 8 hours,” said Rajrani, Sarpanch, Nindana Khas panchayat, Rohtak district while talking to The Pioneer over the phone.

She said people had no other option but to protest against the Government now.

Jaswant Singh, Sarpanch, Nindana Mohammadpur panchayat told The Pioneer, “The girls’ school here was upgraded to senior secondary level but staffs were not sent for the students. There is no water and electricity supply in the schools here.”

“The panchayats have not received any grant from the government so far. The village lacks basic amenities like drinking water and power supply. Besides, there is poor sanitation and poor road connectivity,” he said.

We had held a protest two days back and were given assurance by the concerned officers but nothing was done to restore power supply to 12 hours, he alleged. Rajrani, however, maintained some development work had been done in the village since 2014 but residents had high expectations from the two prominent leaders.

“New gates have been constructed in the village... A new primary health centre is constructed. The building of the primary health centre was completed nearly two months back but it is not operational as formal inauguration ceremony is yet to be done,” she added.

Following a written assurance by the officers of Education Department and Power Department to resolve their grievances by Monday, the residents had later uplifted the blockade after affecting the traffic movement near their village for almost nine hours.
