With Opposition up in arms against revelation of corruption charges against Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, he along with his two Ministers rushed to Delhi to brief his stand to the Central leadership.
The CM on Tuesday finished his first phase of winter sojourn of Kangra and came to Shimla from where he rushed straightaway to Delhi with his two young Cabinet Ministers Mukesh Agnihotri and Sudhir Sharma.
Some bureaucrats have also accompanied Virbhadra Singh in his chopper and according to reliable sources, some Government records were also taken to Delhi, to substantiate the claims of innocence by the Chief Minister.
On Tuesday, around 300 Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists led by national president and Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur had protested outside the house of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi demanding Virbhadra Singh’s resignation. Delhi Police had to use water cannons to disperse the agitating activists of BJYM. According to sources, pressure has mounted on Virbhadra Singh to step down both within the party and outside it as Rajya Sabha leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley had written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about the corruption charges against Virbhadra Singh with 20 documents as evidence.
Chief Minister is likely to meet Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretary and state in-charge Ambika Soni. Senior leaders of the party said that Chief Minister is trying to get an appointment with Congress president Sonia Gandhi to clear the air over corruption allegations but till now no confirmation has been received.
On the other hand, simmering has started surfacing in ruling Congress, with a group of senior leaders opposed to the Chief Minister also heading towards Delhi. One of the groups of senior Congress leaders led by Speaker Brij Biharilal Butail which met on the sidelines of Winter Session of assembly at Dharamshala, had already started raking up the issue of corruption against Chief Minister.
