Virbhadra meets Dhumal, sparks truce speculation

Published on:

Amidst accusations against each other in the recent past, Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and the leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and his two sons met for an hour, triggering speculations in the hill State.

It is understood that the meeting took place due to Union Health Minister JP Nadda's frontal attack on Virbhadra Singh.  "This has brought the two arch enemies together and they could have drawn a common strategy against Nadda," said a source. It is also feared in the camp of Dhumal  that a sizable section of BJP MlAs were drawing closer to the Union Health Minister.

Himachal  politics is Rajput dominated.  Shanta Kumar was the only Brahmin Chief Minister of the state. The powerful Rajput  lobby  fears that  Nadda had the potential to become the next chief minister.

Dr Y.S. Parmar was the first chief minister of Himachal Pradesh and he was also known as the founder of the hill state with a vision and imagination to make the hill state as one of the most prosperous states of the country. Prior to him Thakur Karam Singh was the chairman to Territorial Council.

Union Health  Minister  J.P. Nadda earlier this week demanded the resignation of chief minister Virbhadra Singh on moral ground in the backdrop of Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax raids on the chief minister's presmises in New Delhi and Himachal Pradesh. Describing the silence of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on the issue as “shameful, he had alleged that the party which was involved in 2G, CWG and Adarrsh  mega scams was shielding the corrupt (Virbhadra Singh).

Talking to The Pioneer, Nadda  expressed  shock and disgust  over the abhorring mentality of a section of the opposition leaders against Prime Minister, Narendra Modi by playing up non-issues to mislead the innocent and common people by deviating their attention from development to destabilization.

He said those who indulged in loot and  mega scams for over seven decades were expecting wonders  from just seventeen- month tenure of Modi forgetting that  their Prime Minister had been a dismal failure on several fronts  and when confronted by media and opposition leaders he always made a meek reply,

He lamented that the NDA government headed by Congress  always refrained from holding inquiry into the scams fearing that the truth would tarnish the image of the party.
