Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Wednesday urged the elected bodies, whether it was Panchayat Samiti, Zila Parishad or Vidhan Sabha and general public to participate in the cleanliness drive and help making the environment a better place to stay.

“Cleanliness is next to Godliness and we should sincerely be committed for keeping our environs clean,” said Virbhadra Singh while speaking at a function held at the Zila Parishad Bhawan in Kullu.

He said that cleanliness drives be undertaken right from Panchayat levels and it should be made a routine affair instead of single day affair. He said Gram Panchayats should take up the responsibility for keeping the Panchayats clean. He appealed to the people throughout the state to participate in the cleanliness drives and help making the environment a better place to stay.

He said that the elected bodies, whether it was Panchayat Samiti, Zila Parishad or Vidhan Sabha, play an important role in a democratic set up where every citizen has the right to raise their voice.

“The power should not be used to settle political scores but the elected representatives should focus on the welfare of the people”, said he adding that it was only by serving the people, irrespective of their status, one can be a true National hero.

He said that the demands of the Zila Parishad would be looked into and asked the Chairman Zila Parishad Shri Hari Chand Sharma to convey the demands to the concerned Minister.
