High drama was witnessed in front of Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16 here following the death of a pregnant woman on Monday, and the police was called, as residents of Parach village near PGIMER went on rampage.
Around 500 villagers staged a violent protest and left the premises in shambles venting their anger on amenities within the hospital campus on Tuesday. The villagers were protesting against the death of a pregnant woman. The family members of the woman alleged that the patient died due to medical negligence. Harjinder, a resident of Parach village was brought to the hospital for delivery where she died. According to the family members of the deceased, she died due to lack of proper treatment on time and sheer negligence was shown by the doctors on their behalf.
She was admitted in the labor room for past four days and was only administered saline water and glucose as the doctors were expecting normal delivery. But suddenly on Monday evening she had breathing problems, but no one was there to attend on her, even the security guard of the labor room showed no interest in coming to her rescue.
By the time doctors noticed her condition and rushed to bring the oxygen cylinder to assist her into breathing normally, Hajinder died due to chocking. After the incident the hospital staffs are silent about the matter and everyone is passing the buck, to shun their responsibility. “My wife was healthy when she was brought to the hospital but she died due to negligence of the hospital staff,” said Harwinder Singh, husband of the deceased. We have submitted a complaint with the local police station but till now no action has been taken, he added.
Dr Rajiv Vadera, Director GMCH-16 has not come out clean yet. He has been issuing contradictory statement and said that there were some injury which was found after post-mortem reports, but he is not clear about the nature of the injury and refused to give out any details which depicts the lackadaisical attitude of hospital authorities.
“We have sent her viscera sample for forensic test and can comment only after the report is received. A two members panel has been set up to look into the matter and any further comments can only be made when this committee submits their investigation report,” added Vadera. However, the committee constituted has all the members from among the hospital staff which brings the nature of the investigation under scrutiny.
This is the second case in less than two months period that a death has been witnessed at the GMCH-16 gynecology ward. Earlier on June 27 a new born died here and the family staged a similar kind of protest in the hospital and alleged medical negligence shown by the hospital authorities.
