Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij on Friday directed the officers concerned to formulate a policy to ensure that students doing MBBS or MD from Government medical colleges in the State, would have to do a fixed period of service in Government hospitals.
Facing shortage of doctors, the State Government has decided to make it mandatory for the MBBS students from the state to do service in Government hospitals for two years. A paragraph in this regard will be inserted in the prospectus of government medical colleges.
The Health Minister while presiding over a review meeting of Medical Education and Research Department here, said that the formulation of this policy would end the shortage of doctors and provide new doctors with employment in the State.
He said similar policy was already operational in Gujarat, Andaman and Nicobar, Assam, Goa, Rajasthan, Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka and other states. After this policy, around 800 doctors would be available in two years from four government hospitals in the state, added he.
