Vij recommends change of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Parisar's name

After stirring up a controversy expressing his wish to rechristen the Government complexes named after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in the State, Haryana Sports Minister Anil Vij on Friday recommended the State Chief Minister to change the name of ‘Rajiv Gandhi Khel Parisars’ to ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh Khel Parisars’ in the State.

After recommending the new name to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar on Friday, the Sports Minister also posted on Twitter, “Have sent the recommendation to the Chief Minister to change the name of ‘Rajiv Gandhi Khel Parisars’ to ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh Khel Parisars’.

During the Haryana Assembly Session last month, Vij had proposed to change the name of ‘Rajiv Gandhi Khel Parisars’ to which the Congress had reverted saying that they won’t take any insult on their national leaders.

The issue had triggered off heated exchanges between the BJP and Congress legislatures following which the Congress MlAs had also staged a walk-out of the Assembly. The main opposition INlD had sailed with the BJP legislators on the issue, saying that Congress did the same during their tenure.

On the issue of rechristening name of rural stadia in the state, the Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar had earlier said “If there is any provision as per the law, the matter to change the name of government complexes would be considered.” At present, there are more than 200 rural stadia in the state named Rajiv Gandhi Rural Khel Parisars.
