Vij hits out at Punjab Govt for giving reward of `2 lakh to people involved in the Red Fort incident

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij on Monday slammed Punjab Government for giving Rs 2 lakh each to the people involved in the Red Fort incident.

“It cannot be a more shameful thing that such people were rewarded who created ruckus and disturbed the law and order situation in the country,” the Minister said while talking to the mediapersons here. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had announced to provide Rs 2 lakh as compensation to 83 people arrested by Delhi Police for carrying out a tractor rally in the national capital on January 26.

Vij said that "those who have created ruckus by climbing the Red Fort and those against whom cases have been registered”, were given a reward of two 2 lakh each by the Punjab Government. By doing this act, the Punjab Government has insulted the Constitution of the country and encouraged such people who violated laws, the Minister said.

On January 26, the protesters broke barricades to enter New Delhi and clashed with police in several parts of the national capital during the January 26 'tractor rally' protest organised by farmers.

The protestors had also entered the iconic Mughal era monument Red Fort and unfurled their flags from its ramparts.
