Vij: Election to HOA conducted by Chautala group is false, illegal

A day after leader of Opposition and senior Indian National lok Dal (INlD) leader Abhay Singh Chautala took over as chief of Haryana Olympic Association (HOA), the State Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij on Friday said the election to HOA, conducted by the Chautala group is false and illegal.

Hitting out at Chautala, Vij said that the election cannot be given any kind of acceptance. He said he would write to the Indian Olympic Association in this regard to reveal the truth.

Vij said that neither any district association participated in this election nor did any one accept it.

The Sports Minister said that Abhay Singh Chautala and few of his associates completed the formalities of their own and he himself became the president of the HOA.

Notably, there are three Olympic associations active in Haryana.

Apart from the apex association for sports in Haryana, led by Chautala, there is a parallel body of HOA led by Congress-backed former DGP P V Rathee, who was then DIG (CID). Soon after the BJP took over in Haryana in October 2014, MlA Shyam Singh Rana had also floated Olympic Association, Haryana, claiming it to be the real body to look after sports in the State.

The three HOA factions had been fighting since long with each claiming to be the legitimate sports body.

The Sports Minister Anil Vij had earlier urged the three HOA to resolve the issues between them and conduct fresh elections to constitute only one HOA.  He had also said that because of so called two-three Olympic Associations that had been claiming themselves as right and others as wrong, the players of the state are confused and suffering.
