High drama took place in Haryana Civil Secretariat on Friday when Health-cum-Sports Minister Anil Vij caught a man allegedly “spying” on him outside his office.
Vij saw a person loitering outside his office in a suspicious manner and caught hold of the man by his collar, pulled him inside his office and questioned him.
The Minister alleged the Government was spying on him and he was having doubts about the same for past few days.
The man caught by Vij was from the CID wing of Haryana police. From the man’s possession, Vij also recovered a diary which contained contact numbers and addresses of the persons coming to see the Minister, said sources.
After questioning him, Vij called up Director General of Police (DGP), Haryana, Yashpal Singal and ADGP (CID) Shatrujeet Kapoor regarding the matter.
While Kapoor was not in Chandigarh, Yashpal Singal reached Vij’s office. The Minister also called up State Women and Child Development Minister Kavita Jain and Minister of State with Independent Charge Vikram Singh Thekedar, who were present in the Secretariat at the time of the incident.
later, a meeting was held between Vij and DGP in the presence of Jain and Thekedar where DGP apprised that the CID man namely Surender Singh was deputed at the Civil Secretariat but it was not known what he was doing outside Vij’s office, said sources.
Yashpal said an inquiry would be conducted about the entire sequence of events and guilty would not be spared.
The incident could have far reaching consequences for the ruling BJP in Haryana as Vij and Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar have been at loggerheads for a while over various issues.
Sources said Vij had threatened to resign from the Government alleging that they were spying on him.
Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar is learnt to have expressed his ignorance about the entire incident and is yet to make any comment on the matter.
Vij is the most vocal member in the Cabinet of Manohar lal Khattar and does not mind taking potshots at his party, colleagues and their decisions. For months, Vij has been seen to be taking potshots at Chief Minister on Twitter, to the delight of the opposition Congress.
The five-time legislator Vij, who was voted Haryana’s most popular Minister, was seen as a contender for the post of Chief Minister when the BJP won the assembly elections in October last year. But former RSS man Khattar was brought in to head the Government.
