A day after lok Insaf Party (lIP) MlA Simarjeet Bains visited a Verka Milk Plant in ludhiana and accused it of irregularities in the milk’s quality, the plant manager on Wednesday filed a case against him for “obstructing government work”.
Bains is reported to have made a surprise visit by forcibly entering the Verka milk plant premises in ludhiana on Tuesday and had alleged that a ‘scam’ of Rs 200 crore is going on at Milkfed run Verka milk plants.
Bains had claimed that he conducted a ‘sting operation’ and tested milk samples in Verka’s laboratory. He had also alleged that Verka is charging Rs five to six extra per packet from consumers in the name of fat content whereas the milk being sold is of less fat content.
He had alleged that the practice is taking place at every Verka milk plant in Punjab not only ludhiana.
Bains had maintained that after getting the milk from Verka’s packet checked from the Verka milk plant’s laboratory itself, the fat contents of the milk was 4.1 percent whereas SNF (solid not fat) was eight percent but the rate was being levied for 4.5 percent fat and 8.5 percent SNF.
Verka Management denied all allegations and accused Bains and his team of entering the plant without permission. The management maintained that MlA had brought packets of milk with him and insisted that he wanted to get those tested but was told by Marketing Manager that he cannot allow such testing in absence of plant’s general manager. MlA then forcibly entered the lab and one of his supporters started testing, stated the management adding that none of the Verka employees did testing.
