The protest of various UT employee unions against the UT Administration continued as both have failed to reach a consensus on several issues.
The employees of Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) who were on chain hunger strike for last 65 days went on pen-down on June 19. The CHB employees, demanding implementation of pension, have decided to remain on pen-down strike till June 21 while the chain-hunger strike would also continue.
Normal work at the CHB was disrupted due to pen-down strike by the employees. As the CHB employees have failed to get any response from the UT Administration regarding their demands, the Union has also decided to extend the ongoing chain hunger strike up to June 24. The employees are demanding implementation of pension scheme for employees who had joined CHB before January 1, 2004.
The UT Powermen Union has also threatened to go on strike on July 12 again. The union is objecting to the decision of Administration of appointing a consultant for the purpose of ‘Corporatisation’ of the department.Recently, the top brass of Administration had conducted a meeting with the representatives of various unions to resolve the issues. Though UT had assured the unions on several demands, the disgruntled UT employees want an immediate action into their demands. Other issues of UT employees include relaxation in recruitment age, appointment on compensation ground, regularisation of employees, construction of more Government houses for the UT employees and all the vacancies will be filled up to in time bound manner.
