Soon after the death of one-and-half-month old child who was administered Easy-Five – manufactured by Panacea Biotech, UT health officials raided Baby Care chemist and sealed the entire batch of vaccine.
The stock of vaccine was also sealed at other shops. The officials carried out a thorough examination of the lot. The baby is one of the twins born to a woman of Hallomajra. Both the siblings were administered the same vaccination. However, one of the twins died and the other is in normal condition. Since the raid, the officials of the UT health department have come out with no explanation. Dr Sunil Chaudhary, Drug Controller UT said that he has submitted the report to Dr Rajiv Vadhera, director health UT. On the other hand Dr Rajiv Vadhera said that he is still to receive any report form the Drug controller. This buck passing has turned the water murkier. Manju Wadwalkar, official spokesperson PGI said, “We are unable to say anything because the parents of the deceased infant refused to go for an autopsy and hence the cause of the death cannot be ascertained.” Meanwhile, sources revealed that earlier also some cases of medical complication had arose in other children who were administered Easy-Five, a vaccine which protects a child against five deadly diseases, under the regular immunization program.
