In a major blow to the plans of Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) to sell electricity produced from solar photovoltaic (SPV) power plants, the UT Electricity Department has raised an objection on the proposed draft of CREST.
CREST had moved a petition with the Joint Energy Regulatory Commission (JERC) to seek permission to sell the power produced to the UT Electricity Department and the issue was discussed on Friday in a meeting with JERC.
After attending the meeting, Santosh Kumar, chief CREST said that it was the first meeting to discuss the proposal. UT Electricity Department has raised objections on the draft proposal prepared by CREST for selling the electricity produced from the SPV power plants installed in various government buildings of Chandigarh. The issue will be discussed with UT Electricity Department now.
The CREST had sought permission from JERC to sell power to the Electricity Department at Rs 8.75 per unit. The UT Science and Technology Department has installed power plants at about 12 locations and around 2 lakh units of electricity have been produced.
