The UT Excise and Taxation Department continued to receive poor response during the auction of liquor vends.

After suffering huge losses in the two rounds of liquor vends auction, the UT Excise Department managed to auction only 12 liquor vends during the third round of auction held on Tuesday. The only respite for the UT Excise Department was that Tuesday’s auction saw the highest bid of Rs4.25 crore for a liquor vend in Sector 22.

The liquor vend in Sector 22 has received the highest bid so far in the three auctions.

Earlier, in the first round of auction, a liquor vend in village Kajheri had fetched the highest bid price of Rs2.22 crore against the reserve price of Rs68,10,163.

After the auction of 12 liquor vends on Tuesday, the UT Excise Department collected revenue of Rs16.81 crore. The total revenue generated by auctioning of liquor vends in three rounds stands at Rs133.81 crore now. Not a single bid was received by the Department for 81 liquor vends while 15 vendors have surrendered their liquor vends after they failed to pay 30 per cent of the bid amount within the stipulated period of time.

A senior official of the UT Administration said, “A decision regarding the remaining 81 liquor vends would be taken soon by the UT Administration.”
