Focussing on bringing in citizens’ charter, a corruption-free administration and single window system, the Chandigarh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday released its election manifesto.

Sanjay Tandon, Chandigarh BJP president said that the party promises to bring in citizens’ charter, corruption-free administration and a single window system, if comes to power.

While addressing the mediapersons on Saturday, he said, “If BJP comes to power, public sessions will be held by the Member of Parliament to redress the problems of the city residents. The BJP’s manifesto lays emphasis on corruption free governance, providing affordable housing solutions, ensuring the best of health, education and infrastructure as well as putting the city on world tourism map.”

The party also promises to look into the problems of residents living in Chandigarh Housing Board flats. The issues related to GPA, ownership rights, need based changes, would be resolved, said Tandon. He added, a housing scheme for the tenants living in Chandigarh for several years would also be proposed.

“Apart from this, jobs for youth will be ensured. BJP will give priority to the permanent UT residents for getting jobs in Administration and Municipal Corporation. Besides, there are elaborate plans for constructing community centers having facilities for library, crèche and recreational activities and banquet hall in city. To deal with traffic congestion and parking woes, multi-storey and underground parking facility, underpasses, flyovers will be constructed,” added Tandon.

“The manifesto also assures playgrounds of children, implementation of MSME Act, extension of lal dora, providing hygienic living conditions,” said he.The manifesto also draws comparison between UPA and NDA Government performance at the Centre. Besides, the party has given a detailed account of works undertaken by senior BJP leaders and former city MPs Harmohan Dhawan and Satya Pal Jain during their tenure in Chandigarh.

The polling in Chandigarh would be held on April 10.

Out of the power for over a decade in the city, the BJP is facing a tough challenge on Chandigarh’s lok Sabha seat with a new entrant Aam Aadmi Party here. BJP’s candidate Kirron Kher faces a tough ballot tussle against AAP’s Gul Panag and Congress’ four-time MP Pawan Kumar Bansal.

The BJP has remained ‘unfortunate’ three times in a row in the lok Sabha elections here. During 2009 lok Sabha elections, Congress candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal had retained Chandigarh's seat recording a hat-trick on the seat and defeating arch rival Satya Pal Jain of BJP and Harmohan Dhawan, who had fought elections on BSP ticket then.
