Waking up from deep slumber, the UT Administration has finally decided to initiate renovation work of dilapidated buildings in Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Sector 43 and Sector 17 here.

UT Home-cum-Transport Secretary Anil Kumar on Friday directed the UT Engineering Department to start renovation work of the buildings in ISBT-43 and ISBT-17 and immediately repair the counters at both the ISBTs.The directions came after the visit of Home Secretary along with the officers from Transport, Engineering and Architect Department to both the ISBTs on Friday.

Under the current annual Budget 2013-14, the Centre has allocated Rs 6.92 crore to the UT Administration for the upgradation and development of ISBT 43 and ISBT-17.The Home Secretary further directed the officials to immediately construct AC waiting lounge at ISBTs for the passengers travelling in the AC buses. The lounge will be prototype and later based on the success of this prototype facility, the facility will be extended to other passengers also.

After the inspection at the ISBTs, Anil also evinced his disappointment over cleanliness at ISBTs and pulled up concerned officials for the same. Observing that the cleanliness at the bus terminus was not upto the mark, he directed the officers of the Transport Department to do the needful at the earliest.

The Home Secretary also checked the condition of AC buses, which were found to be in good condition. At the bus terminus, the Transport Department apprised the Home Secretary that the AC buses plying on the route from Chandigarh-Delhi are getting great response from the passengers due to the suitability, cleanliness and comfort of these buses. Hence, resulting in demand of more such AC buses on this route.

The UT Master Plan has proposed setting up of three new intercity bus terminals to meet the future demands. New intercity bus terminals are proposed at Sector 31 Chandigarh near Tribune Chowk, Manimajra and Sector 102 Mohali to cater to inter-buses coming from different directions to Chandigarh Urban Complex.
