Giving a major relief to the traders in Chandigarh, the UT Administration has allowed all the license holders to sell crackers at respective places.

Earlier, the UT Administration had decided to allow setting up of stalls at only three sites in the city.

The UT’s decision was changed after Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher intervened on the request from Municipal councilor Saurabh Joshi. Joshi had also met UT Deputy Commissioner Mohd. Shayin.

On the insistence of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, the Administration had zeroed in on selling crackers at selected sites. However, the move, if applied, would have sounded death knell for the traders,” said councilor Saurabh.

He added, “ I met the Deputy Commissioner and Municipal Commissioner Vivek Partap Singh with a group of traders and had also urged the local MP Kher to intervene into the issue, which she promptly did and directed UT Administration not to let people suffer for no fault of theirs.

Notably, the UT Administration had earlier zeroed in places namely Circus Ground in Sector 17, Exhibition Ground in Sector 34 and Circus Ground in Manimajra for cracker sellers.
