Punjab local Government, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday said the step-motherly treatment meted out to Abohar during the past decade would be rectified and development would be carried out full steam.
He said whereas Abohar got 420th ranking on hygienic index previously, soon enough unprecedented development would be carried out which would propel the city amongst top 10 cities.
Sidhu, addressing a gathering on the occasion of starting scores of development-oriented works including modifying the sewerage system under AMRUT scheme at a cost of Rs 163.60 crore and providing clean drinking water to the people of the city, said that no stone would be left unturned to speed up the development projects in the city and turn it into a bastion of progress.
Also coming down heavily on the previous SAD-BJP regime for exploiting the people of the State during past 10 years and being involved in scams, Sidhu said that the focus of Congress would only be on development.
Announcing to release Rs 10 crore grant for development-centric projects in Abohar, Sidhu divulged that another Rs 500 crore would be spent on the city’s beautification.
“In a first, the canal water issue would be resolved…The present state government has commenced a major initiative of making online the maps of the buildings…Besides, the women have always been accorded respect during the Congress rule,” he said.
Sidhu, interacting with the media-persons, said that the Congress Government would fulfil every promise made.
He also elaborated that the probe regarding the illegal encroachments during the tenure of SAD-BJP government is in final stages and soon the culprits would be behind bars.
Terming the shunning of VIP culture as a symbol of Congress’ progressive thinking, he said that this has been appreciated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He further thundered that the fault lines left behind by the previous SAD-BJP regime are being corrected and the State is marching towards progress during Congress rule.
Earlier addressing the gathering, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president and Gurdaspur MP Sunil Jakhar said that Abohar has witnessed development only in the Congress rule.
The development of Abohar done at a cost of Rs 22 crore 20 years ago was brought to a halt owing to step motherly treatment in past 10 years, alleged Jakhar, who has been Abohar MlA since past three terms in 2002, 2007, and 2012.
Jakhar, who has recently been elected MP from Gurdaspur, said that Abohar would continue to occupy a special place in his heart. “Changing the face of Abohar and bringing it on the developmental index is MY top priority and I would resolve the problems of the people of Abohar and Gurdaspur,” he said.
