Due to unavailability of mustard oil and salt with government's agencies, Haryana Government on Friday decided to discontinue its distribution to over 11 lakh below poverty line families in the state till further notice.
The State Government will now give the subsidy of Rs 250 on mustard oil directly in the bank accounts of AAY and BPL families in Haryana.
“This decision will benefit a total of 11,40,748 AAY and BPL families who will get mustard oil subsidy (to the tune of Rs 250 per family) directly in their bank accounts,” said an official spokesman.
He said that HAFED has been unable to provide mustard oil in the month of June, due to which the ration depots will be unable to distribute ration to the beneficiaries. Due to the comparatively higher price of mustard in the market, farmers have sold their mustard crop at the rate of about Rs 6,500 to Rs 7000 per quintal in the market itself. Thus, mustard oil was not available with HAFED due to its unavailability, the spokesman said.
Keeping in view the current situation, it is decided that the subsidy (to the tune of Rs 250 per 2 litre) on mustard oil to be given to the beneficiaries will be directly deposited in the bank accounts of AAY and BPL families. This process will continue till mustard is available with HAFED. The government is making continuous efforts to ensure the availability of mustard, he said.
