After the conviction of INlD supremo OP Chautala in the 1999 JBT recruitment scam, and desertion by prominent Congress leader Birender Singh, their family members are to contest from Uchana Kalan seat.
Recently elected MP from Hisar and grandson of Om Prakash Chautala, Dushyant Chautala would face Prem lata Singh, wife of veteran politician Chaudhary Birender Singh who recently joined BJP here.Chautala senior is the sitting MlA from Uchana Kalan assembly segment and Singh had contested against him in 2009.
This segment, a Jat community stronghold, has witnessed a sharp division between Jats and non-Jats since the lok Sabha polls, when INlD lok Sabha candidate from Hisar Dushyant Chautala polled 87,243 votes while then sitting Hisar MlA and Haryana Janhit Congress chief Kuldeep Bishnoi got 13,070 votes from here. The Sheokand Gotra of Jat community, which is spread across 24 villages under this segment, plays a crucial role in deciding the winner from Uchana Kalan.
It is a matter of prestige for both Chautala and Singh to get this seat at any cost. In the last Assembly poll, Om Prakash Chautala had defeated Chaudhary Birender Singh of the Congress by a slander margin of votes. Chautala had polled 62,669 votes against 62,048 votes bagged by Singh.
