Two cops of Chandigarh Police were suspended on Wednesday for negligence in initial proceeding into a case which led to the abduction and thrashing of an Under Secretary of Haryana law department on Monday.

The two cops, Jang Bahadur, Assistant Sub-Inspector at police post at ISBT-43 and Constable Hardeep Singh of communication wing, were suspended as they were indicted in an inquiry report of a DSP level official, said Sukhchain Singh Gill, SSP, UT police. The report said the cops failed to take timely initial action on receiving information about the incident. A departmental inquiry has been initiated against the two, added Gill.

Sources said that soon before the incident related to Under Secretary of Haryana law department, Ishwar Singh, one more person, Sharanjeet Singh, became victim of the same gang on Monday. Sharanjeet, a resident of Secor-21, went to ISBT-43 to drop his relative in the morning. Singh alleged that while he was on the way to his residence, a group of four stopped him and attempted to snatch his car, but he managed to escape and saved himself from the miscreants.

On receiving the information from Sharanjeet, Hardeep failed to convey the message to concerned police post, while Jang Bahadur went directly to the residence of complainant instead of moving to the spot. Meanwhile the sketches of three accused persons have been issued by local police.
