Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU) has been granted patents on two of its technologies, meant for detection of cattle meat and buffalo meat.
These new methods of detection of cattle and buffalo meat, developed by Minakshi, Hari Singh and Gaya Prasad, have been issued patent by the Patent Office, Govt of India.
Khokhar said that both were rapid and reliable DNA-based tests which identified cattle and buffalo tissue in raw, cooked as well as spoiled meat. He said these tests were very useful to guard against socio-religious and public health concerns and to prevent adulteration and mis-representations.
The VC said this was the second time in recent past that varsity technologies had been patented. Earlier, last month, a patent had been granted on an Axial Flow Thresher of the university. The new patents, the toll of patents of the university had swelled to 13.
