Two more residents succumbed to Covid-19 as Chandigarh witnessed yet another spike of 160 fresh positive cases on Friday.
The Covid-19 fatalities reached 45 while the total tally of positive cases jumped to 3724 in the city. There were 1572 active cases in the city till the evening, according to the Chandigarh Health Department’s evening bulletin.
With continuous surge in cases, Chandigarh has reported 6 percent average growth rate of infections, the highest in the country and more than double the national average. Till now, 2676 positive cases have been reported in Chandigarh in the month of August. A day before, the city had reported a record single-day spike with 188 fresh positive cases.
Giving details of the fatalities, the health bulletin stated, “A 58 years old male resident of Mauli Jagran died at PGIMER on Friday. He was a case of alcoholic liver disease with pancreatitis and was tested COVID-19 positive on August 19.” “An 84 year old male resident of Sector 22 expired due to acute respiratory distress syndrome with cardio respiratory arrest on August 27 at Mayo Hospital, Mohali. The deceased was a known case of coronary artery disease with PTCA, hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease and was a COVID positive patient,” the bulletin stated.
130 recoveries were also reported in the city taking the total number of COVID-19 recovered patients to 2107 in the city, according to the health bulletin. The recovery rate in the city was recorded at 56.5 percent against the national average of nearly 76 percent.
The fatality rate stood at 1.20 percent. Among 45 COVID-19 fatalities in the city, 41 patients had comorbidities while four patients were without comorbidities.
As per the bulletin, out of 160 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, 112 were detected through RT-PCR testing while rest of the cases were found through rapid antigen testing. The fresh cases were reported from Sectors 2, 7, 10, 11, 14, 16, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 30, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 38, 41, 42, 43, 45, 48, 49, 51, 56, 38 west, Dhanas, Bapu Dham colony in Sector 26, Burail, Dadumajra, Dhanas, Hallomajra, Kaimbwala, Maloya, Manimajra, Mauli Jagran, Ram Darbar, Raipur Khurd, PGIMER campus, Faidan, Industrial area and Khuda Lahora.
