Chandigarh police’s cyber crime cell on Wednesday arrested two persons for allegedly committing fraud by selling duplicate watches on the pretext of providing branded watches.
The accused, identified as Gaurav Bhatia and Dixit Sahani, were absconding since September 25 after the cyber cell raided at their godown in industrial area. The two, arrested from Sector-27, have been booked under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and various sections of the IT Act, said Jasbir Singh, Inspector, cyber crime cell.
Earlier on September 25, police conducted a raid and recovered items worth approximately `five crores. The accused were cheating people by providing fake watches to people by using online websites, said police.
The accused were cheating people through websites — www.watchkart.com,www.rolex.com, www.digaz.com. A complaint against the duo was registered by Mohinder Grover who had place an order on www.watchkart.com to gift a watch to his wife. After receiving the watch, he has some doubts on its quality, and thus he sent it back to the company and ordered a Rolex watch worth `91,000.
later, he was delivered a duplicate version of Rolex watch, said the police official. The local police have also received many other complaints against the duo.
