In a welcome development, the district administration seems to have woken up again to the "Clean Doon, Green Doon" slogan. Apart from undertaking tree plantation on sites like the road divider on Haridwar Road between Jogiwala Chowk and Mohkampur among other locations, the administration is also planning to plant trees along the banks of Rispana river and along roads in the State capital.

Trees will be planted on the banks of around 6 km stretch of the Rispana in the city. The campaign will begin on August 17 with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahaguna expected to attend it. About 3,000 trees provided by the Forest Department are slated to be planted on both sides of the Rispana.

Talking to The Pioneer, additional district magistrate Harak Singh Rawat said, "The plantation on road dividers is not in view of the President’s Dehradun visit. We had already planned this work. Apart from this we will also plant trees on the banks of the Rispana.” The Irrigation Department, Municipal Corporation of Dehradun and Public Works Department will be responsible for the upkeep of the trees planted along the Rispana.
