A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Head Constable of Chandigarh police, for allegedly accepting bribe from an auto rickshaw driver, from PGIMER roundabout on Thursday.

CBI officials said that Dalbir Singh, Head Constable of Chandigarh Traffic police, was accepting a bribe of Rs 1,500. He was taking the money from president of a local auto union near PGIMER.

Complainant in the matter, Jora Singh, told CBI that the head constable was demanding money as monthly installment for not checking the auto drivers for any violation.

“There are around 30 auto drivers at the stand who ferry passengers. The cop promised them that he would not bother the auto drivers on jurisdiction issue,” said the complainant.

Singh had demanded bribe of Rs 3,000 and later came down to Rs 1,500. He had divided the amount as Rs 50 from 30 auto drivers.

Following the complaint, a trap was led at PGIMER roundabout and the cop was arrested red-handed with the money. The amount was recovered from his uniform.

The cop was attached with traffic police for last one year and his duty was fixed near PGIMER entry gate.
