Traders demand changes in building bylaws

Published on:

The traders of Chandigarh on Friday demanded changes in building bylaws in the city. In a meeting held with UT Finance Secretary VK Singh, the traders raised the issues pertaining to building bylaws. The traders condemned the action of the UT Administration to resume SCFs in Sector 22D here and said that they were not authorised to do this by an order of Supreme Court dated February 8, 2002 in Civil Appeal No. 1605 of 1999. This order allows commercial activities at all floors of all commercial properties (CP category) and the UT Estate Office is defying these directions and harassing peaceful owners/occupiers of the properties, alleged the traders.

A delegation of Traders Association during a meeting with UT FS also demanded that UT Estate office should resist from such action and revoke resumption order immediately.

During the meeting, the UT Finance Secretary promised positive action from the Administration. The traders are now likely to meet Deputy Commissioner on August 26 on the issue.
