Taking serious cognizance of the incident of allegedly setting a house, belonging to a Dalit woman, on fire by some miscreants, the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission on Friday directed the Punjab Investigation Bureau’s director and Moga Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to submit a detailed report of the whole incident “in person” by April 24.

Commission’s chairman Rajesh Bagha said that there were reports of torture of a Dalit family and setting on fire their house in Dodhar Sharki village of Moga district.

“As per the reports, some person have trespassed Dalit widow’s house and tried to sexually exploit her. On her protest, they poured kerosene oil on her and her daughter and set their home of fire,” he said.

Setting 17 days deadline, Bagha said that PIB director and Moga SSP have been asked to submit detailed report of the incident in person.

He said that after thorough probe, stern action would be taken against the culprits.

The infringement with the rights of SC would not be tolerated because they are enshrined in the regulations and constitutional norms, he said.
