The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have arrested Chandigarh police inspector Rajesh Shukla, head constable Mukesh Kumar and constable Dilbaj Singh, posted with sector 34 police station, while accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 here on Wednesday at Burail police post on Wednesday evening.
The complainant, lalit Joshi, a parking contractor had approached the CBI on Tuesday, with his complaint.
The parking contractor at sector 34, told the CBI that the cops were demanding monthly payment for August and September. They had demanded Rs 10,000 that was Rs 5,000 each for the three. He said that they had taken money earlier on two occasions. The cops used to demand the monthly not to harass the contractor.
Following the complaint the CBI verified the contents and laid a tarp. The CBI also recorded the call records of the cops in last one day to link the developments.
The parking contractor lalit Joshi, resident of sector 33, reached outside the sector 34 police station armed with the currency notes handed over by the CBI. The CBI sleuths were also monitoring the developments from a distance.
The parking contractor handed over Rs 10,000 to Constable Dilbaj Singh posted at the beat box, in front of an independent witness of CBI standing at a distance. The SHO, Rajesh Shukla, received the money by the constable outside the police station near Gurudwara. After that the three cops went to Burail police post, in the police gypsy. The CBI sleuths reached the police post and nabbed the SHO with the money.
The SHO was carrying the money in his pocket. The cops also underwent red water test. “The SHO, head constable and constable were made to wash their hands but the hands of head constable Mukesh Kumar did not turn red. The CBI arrested the three at the spot and the investigations into the case are on. The CBI also simultaneously raided the houses of the three cops to get any further leads,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) CBI Anti-Corruption Bureau, Tarun Guaba
