Punjab Jails Minister Sohan Singh Thandal on Monday reviewed the working and progress of all drug de-addiction centres set up in jails of the State. Thandal, presiding over a high-level meeting of the jail department, asked Inspector General (Jails) Jagjit Singh to prepare a consolidated report in this regard within in a week’s time.
In a review meeting of all the Superintendent jails, Minister took stock of the working of the drug de addiction centres, the number of prisoners undergoing treatment and those who have given up the use of drugs. During the discussion, day-to-day hurdles faced by the jail department while running the drug de-addiction centres were also brought into the notice of the Minister. Spokesperson said that officers of the jail department have been asked to identify all those prisoners who have given up the use of drugs and who have shown great signs of improvement.
