Ten out of the 13 parliamentarians from Punjab took oath as the Members of the Parliament in the State’s first language — Punjabi — on Thursday.
Other than Congress’ Amritsar MP and former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, BJP’s Gurdaspur MP and actor-turned-politician Vinod Khanna and Aam Aadmi Party’s Fatehgarh Sahib MP Harinder Singh Khalsa, all took oath in Punjabi.
Criticised for taking oath of office and secrecy as the Cabinet Minister in English, Akali Dal’s Bathinda MP and newly-appointed Union Food and Processing Minister Harsimrat Badal also opted to swear in in Punjabi.
Comedian-turned-politician and AAP’s Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann attracted many eyeballs as he came wearing yellow turban, in the style martyr Bhagat Singh used to tie. Taking oath in Punjabi, Mann concluded his oath with Bhagat Singh’s slogan — “Inquilab Zindabad”.
