Two days after the Chandigarh police received a complaint from a 27 year-old woman that her teacher was blackmailing her and extorting money, the accused Sandeep Kumar was arrested by police on Saturday.

“Police are trying to trace out if any other person was involved in helping the accused computer instructor for taking objectionable videos and pictures of the complainant,” said Rajesh Kalia, DSP/Cyber Crime Cell. The DSP said the accused had extorted a large amount of money from the victim by blackmailing her and the police will try to recover the money from his possession.

Kumar had fled after the victim lodged a complaint with police on Thursday. He was arrested from his home at Abohar in Punjab with the help of the location of his mobile phone. The complainant, daughter of a city-based doctor, is perusing a Computer course in Jalandhar, who visited Chandigarh for a short-term computer course at a private institute in Sector 35 last year, where she came close to the accused instructor at the institute.

Police said Sandeep took her to a hotel in Chandigarh last year and made her objectionable video and clicked pictures after she was served a drink laced with some intoxicant following which she lost consciousness. The complainant alleged that Sandeep started blackmailing her on the pretext of uploading her picture and videos on internet and demanded money.
