The issue of SYl (Satluj Yamuna link) canal is once again all set to give some haunting moments to the ruling SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab Vidhan Sabha as Congress has sought resignation of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal just a day before the Budget session starts.
Addressing media in Chandigarh on Monday, Congress legislature Party leader Charanjeet Singh Channi said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal should immediately resign and seek fresh mandate from the people of Punjab on SYl as the government in Centre, in which Shiromani Akali Dal is an active partner has changed its stand on the issue.
Alleging ruling alliance of adopting double standards on the issue of SYl, Channi said that the Shiromani Akali Dal has been betraying the interests of people of Punjab for years. Channi said “Badal should come up clean on this issue and tell his stand to the people of Punjab. Punjab doesn’t have surplus water to give anybody, this is the future of Punjab and without this asset our land will go unfertile.”
Channi further said that it was the Captain Amarinder Singh led congress government in Punjab who stopped the construction of the SYl by passing the historic water treaty agreement in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
Elaborating the plans of Congress to take up the issue of SYl primarily in the session, Channi said that Congress would move Adjournment Motion on the issue and they wanted the issue to be debated first on the first business day that is falling on March 10. He said that the party would start its protest on the issue from the beginning of the Budget session and all the legislatures of the party would march on foot towards Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday wearing black badges and black flags would be shown to ruling legislators as a mark of protest on the issue of SYl.
He said that he had called a meeting of its legislators on March 9 to discuss the strategy to be adopted by the party during the Budget session.Captain Amarinder Singh, Ambika Soni, Shakeel Ahmed, Harish Chaudhary along with all the legislators of Congress will participate in the meeting.
