Swaraj Abhiyan all set to stake claim in Punjab polls

Published on:

The breakaway faction of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Swaraj Abhiyan has made clear its intention of making attempts to emerge as a political force to reckon with in poll bound Punjab.

led by Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan, Swaraj Abhiyan is likely to cause maximum dent to the prospects of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), as both the outfits may try to draw the voters on the same lines of political principles. Though AAP has been able to create a strong platform for itself in the last one year and is being seen as a major political force in the next assembly elections. Swaraj is yet to decide, how to go about the polls.

Swaraj Abhiyan’s Punjab Convener, Prof. Manjit Singh said that the constitution for the party was being prepared and as soon as the constitution is prepared the political wing of Swaraj lehar would be formally launched.

He said that in the state level meeting of Swaraj lehar held in Jalandhar, it was decided that it would participate in the assembly elections in Punjab. “We are setting up district committees and some of the committees have already been set up” said Prof Manjit.

He said that in most of the districts of the state, the membership drive has got healthy response and as soon as the district committees are formed, the state level committee would be constituted in consultation with the district level committees.

Non committal on how many seats the party would contest, Manjit said that it would be decided by the executive committee of the political party and Swaraj lehar would not decide on the political affairs but it will definitely decide the political goals for its political arm and would work according to that.

The launch of political party may get Swaraj Abhiyan direct access in the political scene of the state as two of the four MPs of AAP from Punjab, Dharamvir Gandhi and Harinder Singh Khalsa had been openly supporting Swaraj Abhiyan since the rift in AAP’s founder leaders had come to light after the landslide victory of the party in Delhi elections.
