Swamy charges Amarinder of perjury, Capt rebuts

Punjab’s former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has been censured by unexpected quarters. Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Subramaniam Swamy on Wednesday charged Capt Amarinder for committing “perjury” — the allegations categorically refuted by the former Chief Minister.

Swamy alleged that Congress candidate from Amritsar Capt Amarinder had lied under oath by not disclosing details of foreign bank accounts of his wife and son in his nomination papers. Capt Amarinder is facing BJP stalwart and three-time Rajya Sabha member Arun Jaitley in a battle of prestige in the holy city of Amritsar.

In a Press conference in New Delhi, Swamy released the details of purported bank accounts of Capt Amarinder’s wife and Union Minister Preneet Kaur and their son Raninder Singh. Swamy has also asked the Congress leader to make full disclosures in this regard.

Demanding rejection of nomination papers of the Congress candidate from Amritsar constituency “for allegedly concealing the facts about foreign bank accounts from the EC”, Swamy also sought registration of FIR against him.

Responding swiftly, Capt Amarinder dismissed all allegations dubbing the same as “baseless” and “ridiculous” maintaining that his wife had no foreign bank account. “I categorically deny and dismiss these baseless and ridiculous allegations with all the scorn they deserve as these are utter rubbish so characteristic of Swamy,” said Capt amarinder in a statement.

Capt Amarinder stated that the very timing of these allegations “speak for themselves as the frustration of BJP leadership is understandable with the party candidate from Amritsar Arun Jaitley badly losing from there”.

“Given the fact that Jaitley has realised his position in Amritsar vis-à-vis mine, the BJP's dirty tricks department has now come out with this dirty ploy,” he said, adding, “such frivolous allegations only show as to how threatened the BJP campaign in Amritsar feels and which is losing ground day by day”.

He alleged that BJP was “using falsification as a tactic to mislead the voters”. These allegations had not been leveled for the first time and it is for the second or third time these have been made, he said.

AFTER THEO-FASCISM,BJP NOW PREACHING ECO-FASCISM: CAPT

Amritsar: Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said that after preaching right wing authoritarianism for a long time, BJP is now resorting to economic-fascism.In response to his rival SAD-BJP candidate in Amritsar Arun Jaitley's assumption that FDI in retail will destroy the small trade at a place like Amritsar, Capt Amarinder said: “Jaitley can't create panic by spreading a rumour without any substance.”

He said that the BJP “has been practicing theo-fascism (right wing authoritarianism) by creating fear and hatred among one section of the people against the other for partisan purposes, and now it was trying to use the same trick about the FDI in retail”.

The former CM held the Badal family including the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal and his brother-in-law Bikram Singh Majithia responsible for ruining the real estate business in Punjab for their personal interests.

The property and real estate dealers told him that their investments had been blocked and the value of their properties was getting depreciated instead of getting appreciated. They said, many of them were forced to go for distress sales and even then they were not able to make up their losses.

BANE OF BEING BORDER AREAS WIll BEcome BOON, SAYS JAITlEY

Amritsar: BJP-SAD combine candidate from Amritsar Arun Jaitley described the issues pertaining to border areas “peculiar” which need specific solutions.Addressing public rallies in border villages near Attari Indo-Pak border, Jaitley said the farmers who possess agriculture land in the fencing area often have to sacrifice their produce in the interest of national security which should be duly compensated by the Government.

He pointed that the NDA Government under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee started a compensation scheme by giving Rs3,000 per hectare to the farmers. “later, the scheme was scraped by the UPA Government….Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who belongs to Amritsar, is well aware of the problems of the border area,” he added.

He assured the farmers to re-start the scheme once voted to power, and cross-border trade would be increased which would enhance the economic activities.
