Suspecting State's sincerity, Capt questions limited scope of CBI enquiry

Published on:

Congress Deputy leader in the lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday questioned the limited scope of the CBI enquiry ordered by the Punjab Government into the incidents of sacrilege and subsequent police firing in Bargari near Kotkapura on October 14.

Capt Amarinder, reacting to the government decision, suspected that the state government was “not “sincere about finding out the complete truth. “Given the limited scope of the inquiry, it appears that the government was more keen to bide time than find out the truth,” he remarked.

The former Chief Minister said that the important issue of police firing on peaceful protestors that led to death of two persons has deliberately been kept out of the inquiry purview. “The issue of unprovoked firing on peaceful protestors is also equally important, besides the sacrilege and the two cannot be viewed separately,” he observed.

“The inquiry will never be complete unless and until the issue of police firing is not included in the terms of reference,” he said, adding that otherwise everyone will believe, and rightly so, that the government was not only trying to bide time, but was also trying to protect the guilty police officials responsible for loss of two precious lives.

OUR STAND VINDICATED: Partap Singh BAJWA

Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa, referring to the CBI probe recommended by the Punjab Government into the cases of sacrilege, said that his stand on the alleged involvement of state agencies stands vindicated.

“The foreign hand theory is clearly an attempt by the Badals to divert public attention and mislead the people from their own devious designs and incompetency,” said Bajwa.
