Surjewala slams Centre for seeking HSGMC withdrawal

Haryana Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Randeep Singh Surjewala on Friday condemned the way in which Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami sought withdrawal of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) Act-2014.

Surjewala termed this as a direct attack by the Central Government on the federal structure of the States and on Haryana State legislative Assembly. “We would not tolerate such interference by the Central Government in the State affairs”, said Surjewala. He also requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protect the sovereignty of States, as he had promised in his election campaigns.

Surjewala said the letter of Central Government to the State Government was unconstitutional. Attacking Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Surjewala said if anyone has any problem, they can go to the court and challenge it.
