The supporters of Akali Dal candidate Manpreet Singh Ayali and independent lok Sabha candidate and MlA Simarjit Singh Bains clashed on Saturday night in Sarabha Nagar area here.
This is the second incidence of violence in ludhiana. Earlier, on February 28, two factions of Youth Akali Dal (YAD) clashed in Sarabha Nagar wherein 170 rounds were fired and six persons were injured.
It was learnt that the supporters of Simarjit Bains had come to Sarabha Nagar market for pasting posters where Ayali’s supporters were already present and tried to stall the process, resulting into an altercation.
The police immediately intervened and arrested the supporters of Bains, which further escalated the tension.Sarabha Nagar SHO Amarinder Singh said that following the recovery of some sharp-edged weapons from the vehicles of supporters of Bains, the police registered FIR against six persons. As the Bains’ supporters protested against police action, Ayali’s men also got agitated. Both groups indulged in stone pelting and damaged each others’ vehicles.
