Sukhna lake may again see ducks and geese with Vijay Kumar Dev, adviser to administrator, expressing keen interest in rearing of the birds again here. “We will try to get the birds... People of Chandigarh and tourists used to like them a lot”, said Dev. He was talking to media persons at the lake after formally reintroducing boating for the public after a ban of three months.
Over 100 domestic ducks and geese were culled here after the swine flu scare. They had become a part of the lake and are still being missed by the people who visit the lake regularly. The Adviser, along with UT Home Secretary, Anurag Agarwal and MD, CITCO Kavita Singh enjoyed a round of lake in Shikara after re-opening Boating.
Asked about reintroducing rearing of ducks, officials said they are yet to decide on the feasibility of this domestic bird, where it should be kept or how to manage it..Administration may take certain precautionary measures if they decide to keep the bird again so that they cannot mix with the migratory birds as it had happened in December last year which created bird flu scare in the region.
