Sukhbir Singh Badal, president Shiromani Akali Dal and on Wednesday thanked ‘the mature electorate’ of Punjab for their overwhelming and peaceful participation in Panchayat polls conducted in 130,60 villages of the State.
In a statement issued here, the SAD president said by registering more than 80 per cent participation in the rural heartland of Punjab, the people have slapped on the face of those Congress leaders who were running from one court to another court to get the elections scuttled for countermanded. He said people of Punjab have now become mature enough to see through the machinations of Congress leaders, who have consistently lost series of elections in Punjab, exposing their ‘Zero Base’ in the State.
Badal said PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa in a vain bid to save his chair went to Punjab and Haryana High Court to scuttle the elections but had to face the music of the people in these elections.
Asking Congress to pack up its baggage from the State, Badal advised them that in a democratic polity no political party can survive by running away from electoral battles.
