launching membership drive of the party’s youth wing, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Badal on Wednesday urged the prospective Youth Akali Dal members to be the new agents of change for an even better Punjab. Sukhbir, also Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, said: “With the launch of this drive, SAD has become the first party in the country to undertake such an exercise on scientific lines…Our membership drive is unique in more ways than one.”
“We will go to the villages and wards to recruit our members. We will ensure each prospective member is sponsored by a party leader. We will take undertakings from members that they have never been involved in any criminal activity,” he said. While enjoining the prospective members to respect the law of the land, Sukhbir urged them to become partners in the fight against drugs as well as social evils.
He also announced that the membership drive was a two-way process. “While we will get all details of members and can inform them about the party programmes at the click of a button, the members themselves can give feedback to the party by using the YAD app which will also be launched in the coming days,” he added.
Sukhbir also announced that the Punjab government would fill one lakh vacancies in the next six to seven months. “I have given directions to all departments to identify vacancies so that the same could be advertised and filled in a completely transparent manner,” he said. He also announced that after the completion of the YAD membership, the party would launch membership of Students’ Organisation of India (SOI).
