'Sukhbir failed to fulfil promises with youth'

A day before the launch of “youth for Punjab” programme, the Punjab Congress on Sunday lambasted the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal for his “failure” to fulfil his promises with young generation.

Punjab Congress vice-president and chief spokesperson Sunil Jakhar said that Sukhbir, during a Sadhbhawna rally at Bathinda on November 23, 2015, had committed that their Government will fill 1.13 lakh posts within next six months.

“More than six months have passed but the State Government could not even issue appointment letters to the merit holders of clerical posts,” he said.

At the same time, Jakhar raised a question mark over the process of the recruitment and demanded CBI inquiry in the preparation of merit lists of Punjab Police.

He said that as per the cabinet decision, chaired by the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on November 19, 2015, the State Government had to fill 40,000 vacant posts in energy department, 30,000 in education department, 5,300 in health department, 4,500 in cooperatives department, 6,200 in police department and 2,000-3,000 in other departments.

“In the last six months, the State Government has only conducted typing tests for recruitment of clerk-cum-data entry operator on 2,664 posts and presently, conducting physical tests for recruitment in the police department,” he said.

Jakhar said that the State Government could not initiate recruitment for various other departments. “The merit holders of clerk-cum-data entry operator posts could not get even their appointment letters until the day,” he added.

“Deputy Chief Minister is not a superman who promised 1.13 lakh jobs within six months to the youth of Punjab. Fact of the matter is that the credibility of recruitment process is not satisfying the people,” he said.

He added that the recruitment process was being carried “hurriedly” without taking care of standards which shows that the State Government was trying to cash in on these Government jobs for political gain during upcoming 2017 assembly elections.

“Due to this ongoing mockery of the system by the State Government with the well-educated youth of Punjab, former Chief Minister and State Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh had also addressed a rally at lambi and also warned the ruling SAD-BJP alliance to shun their business outlets claiming to provide Government jobs to the youth of Punjab,” he added.
