Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Badal on Monday expressed his deep sense of gratitude to the Akali rank and file as well as the people of Punjab for collecting in lakhs to tell the Congress government that it would not be allowed to unleash repression and destroy peace and communal harmony of the State to divert attention from its failure to implement the promises made to the public.
Sukhbir said that Patiala rally would go down in history as one of the largest congregations assembled in Punjab and the credit for the same went to the ordinary party worker who had fanned out in the field to spread the message of the people which was warmly reciprocated by the common masses.
“The unprecedented response of the people also spoke volumes about the bitterness amongst the people towards the Congress party for lying and deceiving them with false promises with the sole aim of forming its government in Punjab,” he said.
He said that the people had made it clear that the Congress would now have to fulfil the promises made to the people including implementing Rs 90,000 farm loan waiver, giving unemployment dole and old age pension of Rs 2,500 per month and increasing Shagun benefits to Rs 51,000 besides other promises.
